Go Wild for Canadian Creatures Eco-Stationery
Coming this fall to Chapters Indigo stores, ‘modern rustic’ cards and notebooks feature iconic forest creatures dressed in plaid or wood grain.
New Toronto eco-stationery company Artistry Cards is unleashing a new collection of cards, notebooks and calendars depicting 12 animals from the Canadian wilderness.
A selection from the line – whimsical silhouettes filled with plaid or wood grain patterns and surrounded by natural elements such as falling leaves – will be available for the first time this fall at retailers across the country, including Chapters Indigo. The collection has already received rave reviews from local blogs and customers visiting the Artistry Cards shop in Toronto, which opened last year.
“People really gravitate towards our Canadian Creatures,” says Artistry Cards Founder, designer Swati Bhagat. “There is a real wonder for animals from the wild that stems from a growing respect for the environment in our culture.”
Compared to conventional stationery, Artistry Cards helps protect the environment where ‘Canadian Creatures’ are found. Hand assembled on site, the Artistry Cards studio prints on 100% recycled stock, uses processes designed to reduce paper wastage and packages its products using natural materials or biodegradable sleeves.
“I was inspired by Canada and the special accessibility we have to the wilderness, even just a few hours out of the big cities,” says Bhagat. “I found it interesting to juxtapose the iconic creatures found in our countryside with patterns that are modern and urban. For example, the red plaid reminds me of a jacket I used to wear camping. The designs are Canadiana without being too obvious or over-the-top.”
Cards sell for $4.50 individually or $12 for a box set of 8, while three-pack notebook sets are priced at $12 – $16.
