Visitor Center Gift Shop Kicks off American Craft Week TodayBy RomeNews-Tribune.com

Rome, GA – The Rome-Floyd Visitor Center and the Last Stop Gift Shop will celebrate American Craft Week beginning today by highlighting local artists, authors and jewelry makers.

The goal of American Craft Week, sponsored by Craft Retailers & Artists for Tomorrow, is to bring together individuals, small businesses and organizations from all 50 states in recognition of the countless ways handmade objects enrich people’s daily lives and contribute to the national aesthetic and economy.

Today the gift shop will highlight eco-friendly company Lil’ Sprout Knits that uses only organic materials to create its items. Owner Alex Locke-Norton hand-crafts baby rattles with animal motifs, hand-knitted baby bibs, as well as hair accessories for little girls and more. The cotton used in Locke-Norton’s merchandise has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and is made in the USA.
