Annie Modica Opens Showroom at AmericasMart to Introduce Her Line of Decoupage Gifts to Expand Retail Reach
Annie Modica, whose hand-crafted decoupage gifts are found in retail boutiques and major stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, is opening a showroom at AmericasMart just in time for AmericasMart to present the nation’s only global wholesale trade event of 2012: the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market Jan. 11-18 (Temporaries: Jan. 13-17), with the Atlanta International Area Rug Market featuring the National Oriental Rug Show taking place Jan. 12-15 (Temporaries: Jan. 13-15).
Annie Modica’s 603-square-foot showroom will be located in Building 2, showroom 828B in AmericasMart.
“Our high-end line of gifts is a perfect fit for the AmericasMart” explains Annie Modica, who turned her love of decoupaging into a business approaching $1 million in sales. “We are excited and eager to introduce our products to the AmericasMart showroom. After years of attending gift shows it has been a goal of ours to have a permanent showroom to showcase our products and give our customers the most pleasant buying experience possible. We are looking forward to showing off our new line of trays, lazy susans, tissue boxes, wastebaskets and floor mats at the January show. See you there!”
Decoupage is the craft of cutting designs and images from paper, gluing them to surfaces and sealing them with lacquer or resin. Modica and her crew work out of a converted 2,000-square-foot Quonset hut in San Rafael, Calif., producing hundreds of pieces year for retailers who appreciate the line’s attention to detail.
“Many decoupage pieces are only sealed on the horizontal surfaces like the bottom of the tray or wastebasket or the seat of a stool,” says Modica. “But we meticulously apply resin to even the vertical surfaces, which enables the owners to clean or wash the entire object. That is really what separates us from the rest of the pack.”
