Scituate — In the span of two years, Brittany Jones went from gift-shop employee to furniture store co-owner. Jones, with a little help from her actor father, teamed up with former boss Sylvia Killion to open the Paradise at Sylvia’s outdoor furniture store on Front Street in Scituate last week.

The women had discussed a possible venture ever since Jones, 35, took a job at Sylvia’s by the Sea, one of three stores Killion, 48, now owns on Front Street. Each time a retail space became available in Scituate Harbor, Jones said, they’d talk about concepts for a new shop.

But they didn’t seriously consider the idea until Jones’ father, Charles Haid, approached them with an investment offer over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Los Angeles resident, better known as the actor who played Andy Renko on the popular 1980s television series “Hill Street Blues,” comes from a family of furniture retailers.

Two of his brothers own furniture stores in California, including one for which Haid said he provided an initial investment. Jones, who now lives in Hanover, had spent seven years working at her uncle’s store in Malibu, Calif., eventually rising to sales manager.
