Sunflower Farmers Market Announces New Flagstaff Store

Sunflower Farmers Market has announced it will open a new full-service grocery store in Flagstaff, Arizona, adjacent to Northern Arizona University, by the end of 2012. The market will join Bookmans, Michaels, and Pier 1 Imports in the University Meadows Shopping Center located at 1560 S. Riordan Ranch Street. This Sunflower location will be the ninth in Arizona but the first in Flagstaff, and is expected to bring 100 jobs to the area along with the value-priced groceries Sunflower is known for.

The approximately 26,000-square-foot Sunflower Farmers Market will offer a vast array of fresh produce including locally grown and organic options. Additionally, shoppers will find all-natural meats including grass-fed beef and handmade sausages, plus wild-caught seafood, bulk coffee beans, fresh-baked artisan breads, and fresh-to-go soups.

Grocery items addressing special dietary needs – including vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options – are also a hallmark of Sunflower Farmers Market. The store will also boast a Natural Living department which will feature health and wellness products including skin care, vitamins and supplements. Flagstaff shoppers can further take advantage of the grocer’s value-priced private label product line.

“We’re thrilled to bring value-priced, healthy, natural and organic groceries to Flagstaff’s college students and families,” said Sunflower CEO, Chris Sherrell. “We’ve consistently been very well-received in University towns – like Tucson, Tempe, Orem, and Boulder, for example – and look forward to filling a similar demand in Flagstaff, both with our “serious food, silly prices and smiling faces” and with the jobs we will be able to fill with the new location.”

Each Sunflower Farmers Market distributes a location-specific sale flyer each week which is available to preview online every Tuesday morning at sunflowermarkets.com. Every Wednesday, the past week’s and current week’s sale flyers overlap, doubling the number of items on sale in the store. The concept is called “Double Ad Wednesday” and has proven to be very popular with Sunflower shoppers.

Based in Boulder, Colorado, Sunflower Farmers Market currently operates 37 stores in eight states, including seven stores in Arizona. Sunflower also plans to open a new Phoenix location at 1625 E. Glendale Avenue later in 2012.

The Flagstaff Sunflower Farmers Market store transaction was facilitated by Colliers International of Phoenix, Arizona. Colliers International is a full-service commercial real estate organization providing integrated services to local and global clients for more than 30 years.
