FalconBlue Acquires Mrs. Smith’s Diaper Bags; Will Relaunch as The Drawer Bag Company
FalconBlue, a strategic brand development consulting firm established to manage and grow consumer product brands, recently acquired Mrs. Smith’s Bags, the manufacturer of the only diaper bag with patented pull-out drawers. FalconBlue has partnered with Rachael Smith, the former owner of Mrs. Smith’s Bags, and will be re-launching the company in late August under a new name: The Drawer Bag Company.
“When our team met Rachael nearly a year ago, we were immediately impressed with her creative vision and patented product,” said Julie Dix, president of FalconBlue. “Rachael has masterfully blended both form and function, which makes each bag a stylish, yet practical lifestyle product.”
The History of Mrs. Smith’s Bags
Mrs. Smith’s Bags was founded in June 2006, when Rachael, traveling alone with her two young children, became frustrated sifting through a disheveled, unorganized diaper bag for a bottle and toy that would sooth her crying children. Rachael predicted that a diaper bag with drawers and multiple pockets may be the solution to her problem, and she was right.
“I am a teacher by trade,” explained Smith, “I have been taught to identify problems and develop solutions. Mrs. Smith’s Bags is the solution to my own problem – a disorganized diaper bag – and a great tool for all on-the-go moms and dads.”
When Dix and Smith first met, they bonded almost instantly over their shared experiences as mothers, school teachers, and “mompreneurs.” Their collaboration with The Drawer Bag Company is both natural and mutually beneficial. Dix, having spent the last 10 years as inventor and president of Taggies, is well-versed in business and brand development, while Smith chooses to focus her efforts on practicality and design.
“I am continually impressed with Julie’s business savvy and skills,” said Smith. “Our relationship allows me to focus on my creativity while drawing on Julie and her team’s vast knowledge and expertise.” “FalconBlue’s experience with intellectual property, patents, branding, and distribution channels will certainly benefit The Drawer Bag Company moving forward,” shares Dix. “Rachael has given us a solid design and product; now it’s time to share it with consumers!”
Why the Name Change?
For several years, Mrs. Smith’s Bags has received repurposing requests from buyers and consumers. Dix and team recognized the value of Smith’s patented design, as well as numerous other potential uses, and decided to aptly rename the company The Drawer Bag Company.
“Renaming the company to The Drawer Bag Company allows us to pursue other bag types across multiple industries and meet consumers’ demand for versatility,” said Dix. “Already buyers are waiting in the wings for the reemergence of this product, and they won’t be disappointed!”
