Historic Vassar Building Gets New LifeBy Jan BilesCJOnline.com

Vassar, KS – Carolyn Totman couldn’t stand that a historic building in the heart of Vassar was turning to ruin.

Sure, the roof leaked. Sure, it needed interior work. But when she learned the building was for sale, Totman couldn’t turn away and purchased the structure in October 2009.

“I thought I had to save that building because it has such a history,” she said. “So we put on the new roof, painted and cleaned.”

Little by little, as they had the money, she and her husband, Rodney, refurbished the building into a gift shop that offers new and used antiques, collectibles, gift items and other merchandise selected specifically for the town’s population and visitors to nearby Pomona Lake.
