Entryways Artists Create New
Each distinctive design in Entryways’ collection of handmade mats is an original work created by an artist. And, for spring and summer of 2013, Entryways artists have created a wide variety of new designs that will provide a warm, whimsical or elegant way to welcome family and guests into the home.
With its large and ever expanding product line, Entryways appeals to every style and taste. The 2013 spring/summer line is no exception. For example, if someone wants to add a touch of grace and romance to their entrance, there is the lovely symmetry of a pair of flamingos—their necks, heads and beaks forming the shape of a heart. There are cheerful floral designs including one with the word “Welcome” and a delightful array of colorful poppies. Additions to Entryways’ Handmade Collection will appeal to consumers with special passions—music, sailing, biking and the seashore.
For endearing charm, there is a mat depicting three birdhouses with a bird flitting from one to the next. For customers who like simple beauty, there is a mat with a single white daisy artfully portrayed against a neutral background. And, for anyone who loves Hawaii, Entryways presents the friendly greeting “Aloha” and a graphic beach and sunset.
In addition to their unique designs, Entryways’ handmade mats set the industry standard for craftsmanship. “Each one is handmade by local craftsmen in Kerala, the most southwestern state in India,” says Entryways president Eirini Kalafatides. “This vital cottage industry provides a fair and steady source of income and supports a sustainable community.”
The doormats are hand woven with coir, which comes from the husk of coconuts and is 100% natural and renewable. The dyes are fade resistant and eco-friendly. Each mat is hand-stenciled. And all the new handmade mats measure 18″ x 30″ and ¾” thick (except for the elegant “Our Chateau” which is 1.5″ thick).
