Catching up with Lesley J. Upson, 40 Under 40 Class of 2018 By Debbie Eisele

In 2018 when Lesley Upson won the Gift + Stationery 40 Under 40 Award, she worked as a graphic designer for PSA Essentials. She is now a 13-year veteran in the industry and continues to work for PSA Essentials where she attends trade shows, creates new product, and develops branded packaging and marketing materials. She also aids in production and social media management.

Recently, Gift Shop reached out to Upson to see what has transpired in her life since winning the award.

Since receiving the Gift + Stationery 40 Under 40 Award, what amazing new adventures have you undertaken?

PSA Essentials has decided to step a bit — more outside the box — and we have been working hard at expanding our customer base even more! On top of the new endeavors, we are continually working on keeping our stamp design database up-to-date with the latest trends and with classics. We updated our website and added enamel pins and new stationery to our product line.

How has receiving the Gift + Stationery 40 Under 40 Award positively impacted you, personally and professionally?

Personally, I was really excited! I really love my job and I have been doing it for so long, it felt really good to be nominated and to be a part of this — just in the nick of my 40th bday!

Professionally, I’m just happy that all of the hard work seems to be paying off! The hard work is hardly over and I’m looking forward to the bright future for PSA and myself.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Happier than I am now! The older I get the more I just want to live a full, happy, healthy life surrounded by my friends and family. I have definitely found happiness in my career.

What advice can you share with others in this industry about growing a career, business, or network?

Work hard and be nice! But also … its always so great to meet others in the same line of work. Interacting and keeping in touch is a must! Oh … AND… If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.
