Gift Shop Plus Spring 2022
2022 Color of the Year By Julie McCallum

A look at product trends featuring Pantone's Color of the Year and a few other prominent hues

In the gift and stationery industry, color and design go hand in hand. Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has declared a particular color “Color of the Year.” The company is known for its proprietary Pantone Matching System (PMS), which allows printing and manufacturing industries to precisely match colors across mediums. The Pantone Color Institute, led by executive director Leatrice Eiseman, a professional color specialist who is called the international color guru, has created a brand new color, Very Peri, for the dubious distinction in 2022.

“Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions,” Eiseman proclaimed.

An appealing quality of this pretty blue periwinkle shade is its ability to play well with others. It pairs nicely with pastels and adds a pop of interest to a neutral palette. It looks lovely on paper, as evidenced by the many stationery and greeting cards seen featuring this joyous hue. And as a color found so readily in flowers, it is a natural addition to floral and greenery designs within home décor.

To complement Very Peri, we’ve chosen four other colors: Basil, Muted Clay, Perfectly Pale and Poppy Seed. These classic, seasonless hues blend versatility with warmth, comfort, health and wellness. Explore our curated collection of products featuring these timeless shades in the following Trend Reports.
