Trend Report: On Cloud 9
The quietest, subtlest color has taken over design and retail, according to the Pantone Color Institute.
Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year, Cloud Dancer (PANTONE 11-4201), is a soft, understated white that evokes a sense of ease. Pantone positions it as a color tied to clarity, lightness and a quieter way of living. It reflects a broader shift away from intensity and toward something that feels peaceful, quiet and reflective in a noisy world — a notable choice, as it’s the first time Pantone has selected a shade of white for Color of the Year.
That direction is already popping up across product and store design. White-on-white assortments are gaining traction again, but with more texture and variation — think matte ceramics, washed textiles, hobnail details and distressed finishes. In gift, it’s coming through in everyday pieces that work across several seasons. In home, it’s being used to soften and balance contrast.
Here we present Cloud Dancer and its accompanying cast, handpicked by the Pantone Color Institute: Lemon Icing (Pantone 11-0515), Ice Melt (Pantone 13-4306) and Raindrops On Roses (Pantone 11-1400).
