Baby’s Big! By Sharon Anne Waldrop

Baby Grows Green

Kelly Neal Mariotti, board member of the ABC Kids Expo says that the organic and natural movement is one of the biggest trends in today’s baby market.

Sarah Odenkirk, owner of Petite Miette in Beverly Hills, CA takes organic manufacturing seriously. She is a member of the Organic Trade Association, a business organization with a mission to promote and protect organic trade in North America. Odenkirk ensures that the materials used to manufacture her products are 100% organic. All items are produced in the U.S.A. with organic materials. One of her best sellers, the Mini Miette, is a fleece blankie with an attached bunny head ideal for helping infants soothe themselves.

Kim Kuttner, owner of Petit Bebe, a boutique in Charlottesville, VA sells a high volume of Mini Miettes by displaying them with bedtime storybooks in the cribs she sells. She adds that her customers appreciate that they are made from 100% cotton and safe for babies to put in their mouths and cuddle with when they sleep.

Bibi & Mimi sells 100% organic cotton onesies and Stephan Baby’s bamboo blankets have been a big hit with retailers. Shop owners can purchase a refillable display with a sample piece of blanket, letting customers experience the feel of 100% biodegradable bamboo fibers. The display holds six wrapped blankets.

By all indications, green is more than a passing trend—it’s here to stay.
