Originally from Oregon, Kathy Buck describes herself as “the ultimate consumer that loves to shop” and shares the story of how her husband invested in her instead of the stock market when they relocated to Chapel Hill, NC. That investment was the beginning of the Purple Puddle in 1987. Part gift store and part floral studio, the Purple Puddle is also a full-service stationery store that adjoins Puddle Baby, the store owned by the Bucks’ oldest of three daughters, Sarah Buck Casey. Truly a family business, their youngest daughter handles the in-store printing orders.
The stationery and floral elements of the Purple Puddle ensure a large wedding clientele so the gift areas have displays well stocked with items appropriate for bridal registries. Gifts for the home fill a wall of glass shelves and provide many choices for hostess gifts, housewarming presents or for entertaining. Mixed in with the home decor gifts are a small selection of candles, jewelry, collegiate merchandise and a large selection of greeting cards to fit most any occasion.
