The original SampleHouse opened in Dallas in 1958 and the family-owned business has grown to include seven Dallas-area shopping-center stores, three within the city proper. Each 3,600-square-foot store is filled with what vice president Bryan Poole says the company describes as “organized clutter.”

Antique and reproduction wood furniture are used as displays, and soft lamps scattered throughout the store offset overhead lighting. Each section, divided by category, is stocked with multiple product lines; for example, the candle area alone features over a dozen candle manufacturers.

The company offers its own extensive gift packaging line—including the all-in-one “2-second wrap”—which is sold within its stores as well as online.
