Nantucket Looms opened on Main Street on April 1, 1968, after a request from a local inn, the Jared Coffin House, for woven drapery material, fabric for furniture and coverlets for its guestrooms. Weavers combine all-natural fabrics and fibers with their individual artistic vision to create pieces for the shop. Visitors can see the weavers at work upstairs. The store also offers local artists a place to showcase their work. These include a Nantucket favorite: tightly woven lightship baskets by Dale Rutherford.
