Get Framed By Emily Lambert

Sizes that Sell

The frame size that outsells all others is 4″ x 6″ because “that’s the most common print size and fits a variety of occasions,” says Hunnibell of Swing Ltd. Also popular are 5″ x 7″ frames, but 8″ x 10″ frames are not as frequently purchased. The largest frame that Swing Ltd offers is the Soho frame, which measures 14″ x 16″ and is geared toward framing diplomas and certificates.

Hunnibell advises retailers stock a minimum of the three smaller sizes: 4″ x 6″, 5″ x 7″ and 8″ x 10″.

Retailer Susan Lihn, owner of Wake Up Little Suzie in Washington, DC, suggests retailers also stock smaller frames suitable for desks, such as 2″ x 2″ and 3″ x 3″. “These [sizes] sell more as gifts, and are great for kids’ school pictures,” she says. “The more successful stores pick a few styles of frames and go deep in sizes, as opposed to one frame in one size and a different frame in another size,” says Shamah of Eccolo. “When you buy deep and you keep replenishing, you’ll be much more successful.”
