Gift Shop Plus Spring 2026
Picking Up the Pace By Carly McFadden

We’ve got momentum.

Carly McFadden headshot2026 undoubtedly began on a high note. The January markets set a strong tone industrywide, with market centers reporting increased attendance, foot traffic and order writing. After several years marked by caution between supply chain challenges and tariffs, the start of the year brought a much-needed breath of fresh air to wholesalers and retailers alike.

So perhaps it’s kismet that with Q2 now well underway, the market calendar is continuing that momentum with an earlier-than-ever start to the summer buying season. Most notably, Atlanta Market shifted to June 9–14, more than a full month ahead of its typical mid-July timing.

Thus, the planning, decision-making, preparation and curation for late 2026 and early 2027 are all in motion now.

Concurrently, the end consumer continues to evolve. With economic pressures mounting, shoppers aren’t pulling back entirely, but they are spending more intentionally. They’re prioritizing well-made, high-quality items that feel extra personal, giftable and lasting — and passing over what doesn’t move them emotionally. It presents both greater pressure and greater opportunity for retailers as they prepare for the remainder of 2026.

Therefore, curation matters more than ever. Every product must earn its place in-store, whether through quality, storytelling or an element that delights shoppers. With this in mind, our Spring 2026 issue looks ahead.

Inside these pages, you’ll find inspiration for Halloween, fall and tailgating season — growing categories that are already shaping second-half 2026 assortments. Fun fact: Wholesalers and retailers alike point to Halloween as the fastest-growing holiday in retail, now second only to Christmas in overall popularity.

You’ll also discover our latest Meet the Maker, featuring Stephen Brown of Glitterville — one of the most standout, whimsical showrooms to keep an eye out for at markets. The philosophy behind the brand: The holidays are something you create, delight in and return to again and again. The iconic brand began from a child’s instinct to celebrate, create and carry the magic forward from one holiday to the next. Read more on page 62.

As the pace continues to pick up this year, blending thoughtful curation, unexpected moments of inspiration and confident decision-making will carry retailers through the seasons ahead.

Until next issue,
