The art of giving

Inside Ambiente 2026’s celebration of design and purpose

(Sponsored) Ambiente 2026 is the international key event for lifestyle and design in the consumer goods market — where markets find direction, new products are unveiled and networks grow. Across its sections, Dining, Living and Giving, the fair brings together brands, labels and decision-makers from retail, interior design and hospitality. The fair takes place February 6-10, 2026, providing endless opportunities for retailers and buyers alike.

Yvonne Engelmann

Yvonne Engelmann, Director of Ambiente Living and Giving at Messe Frankfurt, has overseen the Giving area since 2011. With a mission to create new business opportunities and foster valuable connections, Engelmann is passionate about tradeshows — especially since Frankfurt has become the hub for the global consumer goods industry.

“I have been working in the trade fair business for almost thirty years across various industries. However, I feel a particular affinity for the consumer goods industry. It is deeply intertwined with our daily lives — it touches all aspects of how we live,” Engelmann said.

The Giving sector at Ambiente truly celebrates the diversity of giving for all occasions and lifestyles — offering an exciting, cross-sector product mix from gift items to decorative and personal accessories to bags and more.

Inspiration behind the Giving sector

The origins of Ambiente Giving are deeply rooted in Frankfurt’s long-standing trade fair tradition. In 1990, the former “Internationale Frühjahrsmesse” (International Spring Fair) was transformed into the Ambiente format, which included a dedicated area for gifting, according to Engelmann.

“At that time, the product world around gifting was already a core element. As demand for curated gift assortments continued to grow, the dedicated sector ‘Ambiente Giving’ was later established, becoming one of the fair’s three central pillars alongside Dining and Living,” Engelmann said. “Gifting never goes out of style; it remains a lasting and universal expression of appreciation.”

The Giving sector was also inspired by a need for products, including everyday functional items and bringing special attention and joy through unique designs and lifestyle-oriented executions. Ambiente Giving presents an international, high-quality selection of contemporary gift items, stationery, , writing instruments, personalized accessories and more.

Key brands, among others, showcasing in Hall 4.2: Chic.Mic, Donkey Products, Kikkerland, Legami, Troika, and Waldmann.

Ambiente Giving encompasses a wide and international selection of design-forward, thoughtful and functional gifts. Today’s consumer values both aesthetic appeal and meaningful storytelling,” Engelmann said.

Now more than ever, digitalization and urban lifestyles are driving both innovation and aesthetics. Products such as RFID-protected wallets or smartphone accessories have shown increased interest.

At the same time, sustainability is a major influence — with exhibitors showcasing cactus-based leather, reusable notebooks or upcycled packaging. Ambiente’s special interest “Ethical Style” highlights the sustainable products from exhibitors — both onsite and offsite.

At Ambiente Giving within the product segment Urban Gifts, Stationery & School, there is clear momentum across several key categories, including:

  • Sustainable gift items creatively integrating materials like cork, cactus leather or recycled fabrics.
  • Functional gifts offering versatility, sparking joy through their design
  • Growing demand for writing tools and premium stationery that counterbalance digital lifestyles.
  • New concepts in educational and creative children’s products that combine play, design and purpose.

Engelmann also highlights Hall 10.4 with the Global Sourcing offer regarding ‘Home Accessories & Contemporary Crafts’ and MADE51 by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Hall 3.1. This area features a showcase of gift ideas with a sustainable focus, all handcrafted by artisans around the world.

“I also recommend exploring the Japan Style area in Hall 3.1,” Engelmann said. “Here, Ambiente is organized much like a concept store; every retail type finds tailored offerings here from fast-turning consumer goods to brand-driven design items.”

In 2026, Ambiente Giving has expanded matchmaking and lead generation tools. With a new digital networking tool, this feature is integrated directly on the fair’s website and app, enabling buyers and exhibitors to connect before the event. Plus, attendees can schedule meetings and maximize their onsite efficiency with the help of a personalized profile, verified contact suggestions and a smart algorithm.

The LeadSuccess app also helps exhibitors capture leads directly, transferring data into CRM systems, making trade show ROI more measurable and manageable.

Engelmann notes Ambiente’s orientation tools are equally important to attendees. With guided tours to selected exhibitors, special interest guides for specific offerings and the integration of exhibitors into curated special presentations, these offer valuable insights beyond digital solutions.
