The Perfect Piece By Debbie Eisele

Owners create an environment that makes the store a “go-to” retail location

The Perfect Piece is located in downtown Cary, North Carolina, which is a growing urban area. Neighboring businesses, restaurants, breweries, unique shops and even bakeries make this area a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

Betty Haskell and Rebecca Ennis opened The Perfect Piece in May 2012. “The Perfect Piece is a unique retail co-op of 31 vendors and additional showroom space for consignment furniture and accessories,” said Betty. “We sell both new and pre-owned furniture; some are from homeowners that are redecorating, down-sizing, or moving, while other items are from model homes.”

Betty’s love of pre-owned merchandise began when she was moving her daughter into a college apartment and needed to decorate the space. When she realized the value of this type of business, she opened a booth in a retail co-op and soon realized she wanted to open her own shop. Betty approached Rebecca, who is married to Betty’s nephew, about owning a family business together — Rebecca agreed. “The rest is fabulous retail history,” said Betty.

Displays are rotated frequently and showcase in-season merchandise.

The store now has four employees, in addition to the co-owners, who work on a unique mix of offerings. Since the store offers both new and used items, the owners opt to purchase new merchandise at the big trade shows. “We visit our local High Point Market and many of our vendors attend Atlanta Furniture and Accessory Market twice a year,” Rebecca said.

The Perfect Piece provides an opportunity for shoppers to peruse furniture, home décor, jewelry, accessories, gifts, apparel, handmade products, and gourmet snacks. Garden décor as well as local pottery and glass products are always in the store to appeal to its customers.

The store owners understand the importance of excellent customer service and creating an environment that makes it a “go-to” retail location for its customers. “We are known for great home décor and gifts, but we also have such a wide variety of styles and prices,” said Rebecca. “We have something for everyone,” shared Betty.
