Amazon looks to airports for expansion

In an effort to continue growth, Amazon is planning to bring its checkout-free format to airports.

“For months, the world’s largest online retailer has been expanding Amazon Go, where customers scan their smartphones at a turnstile to enter, and then cameras identify what they take form the shelves. When shoppers are finished, they simply leave the store and Amazon bills their credit cards on file,” read a Reuters article on the planned expansion.

Seven of these stores have been opened so far, and the company is now looking to airports for its next move. While the dialog has started, the retailer will have to undergo a competitive bid process for airport presence.

“More than 350 million passengers boarded flights at the country’s top 12 airports last year, according to U.S. Department of Transportation data,” the article shared.
