Artist’s Love of Beads Leads Her to Open ShopBy Lyndi McNultyCarrollCountyTimes.com

Eldersburg, MD – Margie Rose loves beads. About seven years ago, she and her daughters went to Ocean City on a rainy day and wound up in a bead shop. They have been hooked on beads ever since.

Rose wanted to do something other than string beads, so she began to make her own polymer clay beads. They can be any size or color that you want them to be. “The fun thing about polymer clay beads is that no two ever look alike,” Rose commented. She made them at home. Different clays can be mixed together to make beads or the clays can be layered. Before the beads are baked, metallic powders can be added for a unique look.

Handmade beads can also be stamped or molded. Butterflies, a leaf or any other design can be added in this way. At first, Rose made beaded items for herself and friends. She also taught classes at the Eldersburg Library and Glazed to Perfection (glazedtoperfection.com), a pottery studio in Eldersburg.
