Crepes! Art gallery in Waddington to offer them
Waddington — A gentle breeze carries the scent of cinnamon and chocolate through the Artworks Gallery Gift Shop, as a crepe slides off a pan in what soon will be a cafe housed at the business.
The Creperie at Artworks restaurant won’t open for a couple of weeks, but gallery owner Mark Scott and his family were busy this week taste-testing the delicate French pancakes, both savory and sweet, that came out of the tiny kitchen run by Maria J. Hunt.
“It’s a food that’s simple but elegant. It can be breakfast, lunch or dinner,” Mr. Scott said. “Come in, relax. It’s going to be a nice relaxing place for the whole family.”
The cafe is in a small room in the back of the gallery. Paintings from local artists hang on the exposed brick and painted red walls. A cut-out in the brick offers a view from the cafe into the shop, which sells jewelry, ceramics, artwork and locally made maple syrup.
Mrs. Hunt’s candy confections take up half the shop. Crepes fit well with the artsy theme of the shop, Mr. Scott said.
“Crepes are an art. The way she has the desserts, it looks nice,” he said. “It tastes good and it looks pretty.”
