Cancer patient wanted more than a surgical cap after hair loss, so she created a business to offer attractive options
League City, TX – When Carol Galland was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in 1994, the hospital provided her with a surgical cap to hide her hair loss.
That mortified the Oklahoma hairdresser, who soon launched a company called Headcovers Unlimited to provide people like her with more options.
Today, Headcovers Unlimited sells 1,200 products via its website and is expanding its operations in League City to include a showroom, warehouse and more.
“She knew she could do better than that,” said Danielle Yates, Carol Galland’s daughter and the company’s president. “She looked in the hospital gift shop for a scarf or a hat, but everything there screamed ‘chemotherapy!’ ”
After her treatments, Galland returned to Oklahoma and designed a matching hat-and-vest set with a local seamstress.
