Carroll Lutheran Village shop gets boost from local students
What began as a project for marketing students at Carroll Community College last fall has turned in to an ongoing professional partnership between students and the administration at Carroll Lutheran Village.
“We weren’t exactly sure where it was going to go,” said Laura Sinnott, executive director at Carroll Lutheran Village, a retirement community in Westminster. “But, we’ve learned it’s a [partnership] that can go on and on.”
The administration at Carroll Lutheran Village approached the Miller Entrepreneurial Institute at Carroll Community College, an organization that works to grow new and small businesses, last year asking for help in promoting the village’s Shop on the Square, institute coordinator Marlene Titus said.
“We were looking for something to do for the Shop on the Square to make it a destination for those outside of our community,” village spokesperson Hermine Saunders said. “We thought we could give experience to students in the business program and they could help make it a valuable entity.”
The village’s Shop on the Square is open to the public and sells everything from cards and jewelry to artwork created by residents, but it isn’t easily visible to people driving by.
