Celebration of Good Ideas: The Solutions Special Show at Ambiente 2014

The Solutions participants for 2014 have been selected. Curator Sebastian Bergne has chosen 23 products distinguished by a special benefit or clever idea for the Solutions special show at Ambiente, the world’s leading trade fair for the consumer-goods sector. The London-based product designer, who has curated Solutions for the third time, was supported by two experts – Marcel Stut (journalist, ‘essen & trinken’ magazine) and Claus Tormöhlen (Category Manager, GALERIA Kaufhof department store). “The Solutions special show is a celebration of good ideas and presents new products from Ambiente exhibitors, which offer creative solutions, especially in the table, kitchen and household segments. The focus of Solutions is on functional innovations”, says Sebastian Bergne. With regard to the products entered for Solutions 2014, he says, “Many of the products submitted this year were for storing or transporting foodstuffs, e.g., when travelling or for picnics. There is a definite trend towards greater mobility.”

A good example of the products included in the special show is ‘Bagsy’ from AdHoc, a bag closure that makes it easier to store open packs of foodstuffs, such as sugar, flour or noodles. It prevents the package from tearing and ensures a proper seal. Another clever product is the ‘Party’ set from Cookut. These compact and colourful kitchen aids make it possible to cut the cake into equal slices even when there is an odd number of guests. No matter whether five, seven, nine or eleven guests, nobody gets short measure. With its new ‘Ratchet’ series, Kuhn Rikon offers a completely different way to grind spices or grate cheese. The innovative ratchet mechanism ensures top results for little effort and is easy to use.

This year, the Solutions special show also includes products distinguished by clever solutions outside the table, kitchen and household segment. ‘Lucetta’ magnetic lights from Palomar are ideal for cyclists. They could hardly be easier to fit and, thanks to the magnets, remain firmly in place on, for example, the seat post and head tube. Afterwards, the lights are simply clipped together and fit in any pocket. Maximum protection for laptops and tablets is provided by BlueDesert’s elegant ‘KeepAir’ bags. When unfolded, the bags inflate automatically. When folded, the air escapes, making the bags easy to store.

All products selected will be exhibited at the special show in the foyer of Hall 4.0. Additionally, Sebastian Bergne illustrates the special features of each product in a brief video clip. About the design of the special show, he says, “We create an extremely linear setting to spotlight the characteristics of the individual products. The function of each product is explained in a short video clip. At the same time, visitors can pick up and try out the products. Presenting the products in this way proved very popular among special-show visitors in the last two years.” The special show is open to visitors throughout the fair from 7 to 11 February.
