Charisma Reintroduces 1964 Fashion Doll, Penny Brite

Charisma Brands, the award-winning designer and manufacturer of collectible dolls, evokes childhood reminiscence in doll collectors from the Baby Boomer generation with the reintroduction of the 1964 fashion doll, Penny Brite. Originally produced in the 1960s by Deluxe Reading/Topper Toy Company, Penny Brite was the perfect answer for mothers who wanted to give fashion dolls to their daughters, but objected to the adult look and form of Barbie dolls. Charisma’s Penny Brite will feature many of the same quality clothing and fashion accessories as the original doll.

While the doll won’t officially debut until July, Charisma had a prototype on display at the New York Toy Fair in February. According to Peggy Vicioso, VP Marketing and Product Development for Charisma, the doll was huge hit. “People were thrilled with the idea that they could soon own this doll that they remembered so well from their childhood,” said Vicioso. “Penny Brite was greeted with even more enthusiasm than we expected, especially considering that, until now, she hasn’t necessarily received attention she deserves as a vintage, collectible doll.”

Charisma’s Penny Brite will feature her original red and white pleated dress and three collectible outfits: Chit Chat, Sun and Fun, and Picnic Treat. True to the original, Penny Brite’s twinkling eyes glance slightly to the side and her short, blonde hair is styled with a red bow. The 8-inch vinyl doll also comes in her vinyl carrying case and will retail for $69.95.
