San Antonio, TX – It’s a specialty store in a region where the merchandise is hard to find. On Friday afternoons, the small Northwest Side shop fills with customers.

Most arrive after attending weekly prayers at mosques across the city. They mingle, chat and browse the store’s Muslim-themed items, from head coverings, clothes and books to Arabic artwork of Allah’s 99 names. There are lotions and makeup crafted with processes acceptable to Islamic teachings. There are games, gifts and jewelry.

“I’d be lost without it,” said Hafsah Hafsi, a regular there. “There’s a sense of community here. Everybody knows about the store and that it was founded around the community.”
