Lufkin, TX – Walk into downtown home décor shop, Mama Tried, and you can expect to be greeted by a mixture of old and new, classic and eclectic. You can also expect to be greeted by store owner Wanda Wesch, a petite blonde with a warm smile and even warmer personality.

The Parton-esque Wesch – she once won a national Dolly Parton lookalike contest that led to an appearance on “The Dick Clark Show” – says there was a time she wasn’t so cheery. In fact, it was a near-crippling depression that led her to where she is today, using her gifts to brighten the lives of others.

“I went through some really tough times and I got very, very, very depressed,” Wesch said. “I didn’t brush my hair. I didn’t brush my teeth. I didn’t answer the phone. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I would let my children know I was OK, but wouldn’t talk to them very long. I just didn’t know what to do to come out of it. Every now and then I would lift up my hands and say, ‘Lord, what do you want me to do? I don’t know what to do. Help me.’
