Evanston Print and Paper Shop Fuses Computer Design, Gutenberg-era Machines
Evanston, IL – Evanston Print and Paper Shop more closely resembles a factory than a place to buy stationery. The small, cluttered space is packed with presses, tools and heavy machinery so big that the owners had to remove the windows and use a forklift to get it into their space since they wouldn’t fit through the door. A “Johannes Gutenberg Says Way to Go” poster pays tribute to the inventor of the printing press.
The store, which celebrates its sixth anniversary this June, fuses computer design and technology that dates back to the Industrial Revolution to create truly unique textured letterpress invitations for weddings, showers and bar and bat mitzvahs, among other occasions.
“It’s a way for people to deeply personalize,” said co-owner Eileen Madden, who lives in Evanston. “It allows you the flexibility to really make it your own. It’s for people who have tried to make this a really special family event.”
