Gabriele’s German Cookies & Chocolates Celebrates Tenth AnniversaryBy Barbara DemmingAshlandWI.com

Ashland, WI – It’s hard not to act like “a kid in a candy shop” when you walk in to Gabriele’s German Cookies & Chocolates on Main Street in Ashland. With an array of cookies, candy and homemade jams and jellies, resisting the urge to purchase one of everything, is close to impossible.

The year 2014 will prove to be a big year for Gabriele Block, owner and operator of Gabriele’s. Not only will Block be celebrating her ten year anniversary since opening her shop; but she has also been invited to participate in this year’s Renaissance Festival Oktoberfest Bavarian Village in Shakopee, Minn. on Sept. 20 and 21.

The invitation from the festival came as an exciting surprise to Block and one that speaks well of her reputation for fine homemade, German sweets and is a great compliment to her talent. According to Block, she received a phone call from the organizers of the renaissance festival, believing that her candies would be a perfect fit at the Bavarian village. Block enthusiastically accepted the invitation and set about planning the logistics of what and how many candies she would bring with her, how to transport and keep the chocolate from melting once at the festival and what costume to wear while in the Bavarian village.
