Gear up for bazaar season
The October sun is bright and the autumn breezes are brisk — both signals that bazaar season is upon us in the Ozarks.
Luckily for shoppers in the region — with scores of holiday bazaars on tap between now and early December –it’s also open season to harvest special handcrafted items for holiday gift-giving and home décor.
With only 65 shopping days till Christmas and the economy so fragile that many folks find themselves stressing over how they’ll knock down their holiday gift lists, hitting the bazaar circuit this year can also pave the way for reaping in some great values.
“At the bazaars, every year is different as to what you’ll find,” says Naomi Williams of Republic, “but you always find such a wide variety of items. And even if you’re not looking for something in particular, one thing or another just speaks out to you.”
“The best thing about going to the bazaars,” she says, “is that the items are unique, they are handmade, they are reasonably priced and it’s fun.”
Ginger Taylor of Willard, manager and buyer for the Cox South gift shop and also an avid bazaar shopper, wholeheartedly agrees.
