Gift For Life & National Stationery Show “Three-peat” Partnership for 2014 AIDS Walk New York

For the third consecutive year, Gift for Life, the gift, stationery and home decor industries’ leading charitable organization, has partnered with the National Stationery Show, now part of the signature mix™ marketplace, to participate in AIDS Walk New York, a charity fundraiser in New York City on Sunday, May 18 – the opening day of the Show. The Gift For Life/National Stationery Show team will recruit walkers to raise funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS by participating in both the actual walk through Central Park and across New York City’s Upper West Side as well as in a “virtual walk” through the aisles of the Javits Center where the show takes place.

In 2013, the Gift For Life/National Stationery Show team raised $16,784 for AIDS Walk New York, placing it among the event’s top 25 fundraising teams overall. Monies collected by team included a generous $5,000 matching grant from Gift For Life’s charity partner, DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS. DIFFA’S Board of Trustees has once again offered a $5,000 matching grant this year, and the Gift For Life/National Stationery Show team has set a fundraising goal of $20,000 for the 2014 AIDS Walk New York.

“This is a great opportunity to broaden Gift For Life’s fundraising activities and embrace an even wider spectrum of people” said Stu Teller, Gift For Life Chair and 2013 AIDS Walk New York Star Walker. “Through DIFFA’s generous matching grant, every dollar donated again will be worth two dollars to AIDS prevention, treatment, and advocacy programs.”

Industry members and friends are invited to join the Gift For Life/National Stationery Show team as both walkers and as donors. The 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) AIDS Walk New York begins on Sunday, May 18, at 10am in Central Park, or at 9am at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center when the signature mix marketplace opens its doors.

“We’re delighted to continue our partnership with Gift For Life to raise funds for AIDS-related treatment and prevention services,” said Patti Stracher, Vice President, GLM, and National Stationery Show Director. “The stationery industry is particularly charitable and with the broader marketplace, we’ll have more people to help us reach our fundraising goal. I invite exhibitors and attendees to join in supporting this event as ‘virtual walkers’ earning dollars as they walk the Javits from end to end.”

Since its inception in 1986, the event has raised more than $133 million to fight AIDS in the tri-state area, and the AIDS Walk movement has raised more than a half-billion dollars nationwide. Last year, 30,000 walkers and 2,500 volunteers raised more than $5 million for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and advocacy programs.
