Kids consignment store slated to openBy RockfordIndependent.com

The former location of Wiggles and Giggles will soon become Gumballs and Overalls, a new children’s consignment shop – the second to occupy the storefront at 122 Courtland St.

The upscale consignment boutique boasts name brands such as Gymboree, Gap, Tommy Hillfiger, Polo, Talbots and more at prices 50 to 70 percent below retail.

Owner Teresa Patteuw said shoppers in her store will not have to compromise their style and fashion preferences to get a great deal because all items are guaranteed to be in “like new” condition.

Patteuw added the atmosphere is not like other secondhand stores but is organized much like a designer boutique with beautiful displays and unmatched customer service.

“Why pay the difference when you can’t tell the difference?” Patteuw said.

But Gumballs and Overalls offers more than just a great money saving solution. Families can also sell their kids’ outgrown clothing (sizes 0 to 10), equipment, furniture and accessories and make some extra cash in a troubled economy.

According to Patteuw, consignors will receive 40 to 50 percent of everything they sell. They can receive a check for their sold items or they can use the money to shop in the store at a discount.

A typical consignor can expect to earn as much as $500 per season, Patteuw said.

In addition to items on consignment, shoppers can expect to find many new gift items as well. New gift items will include tutus, hair bows, baby blankets, bibs, rattles, heirloom christening gowns and accessories, diaper bags and more.

Gumballs and Overalls will also offer environment-friendly children’s products including Earth Mama Angel Baby organic care products as well as a large assortment of cloth diaper brands like Bum Genius, Thirsties and Happy Heiny’s.
