Hands-on learning Kids, parents fired up over muddy business
Getting dirty while you put a personal touch on kitchenware or make a gift for a friend is worth the price of admission at Muddy Hands the Pottery Place on Center Street in Rutland.
The studio, which is located in the back of the Hands On Minds On space, can be reserved for adults and children alike for a party or a designated class.
Last November, business owner Jen Hogan expanded the artistic space and brought two clay/pottery instructors on board. Helvi Furlan, former owner of a creative space downtown, and April Cioffi have years of experience with clay and pottery.
The child-friendly environment has expanded to include entire families or adults only, depending on the event. A recent family workshop, where participants crafted hands with clay, resulted in about 85 hands created.
“This has always been an education place, but it’s not just for kids,” said Hogan sitting at the pottery studio. “I really like working with the adults and families.”
Hogan’s Hands On Minds On business grew out of her home where she started holding classes for children. Since the shop opened on Center Street in September 2005, it has continued to grow with few dollars spent on advertising.
