What’s Up: Layoff opens door to antique, gift storeBy WausauDailyHerald.com

Bonnie Osswald is a believer in the saying that when one door closes another one opens.

So when she was laid off from her job as a secretary for Catholic Charities, she saw it as an opportunity.

Osswald and her husband, Steve, on June 16 opened Honeycomb Gifts & Antiques in a small outbuilding next to their house at 2802 E. Wausau Ave. in Wausau. She said she had been involved in craft shows previously, and she thought the shop would be a nice fit on the outskirts of the city, just up the road from the Window Box garden and gift store.

“I just thought I’d try this new venture, seeing that I loved antiques and crafts and all that stuff,” she said.

Honeycomb carries a variety of home decor items with a country or primitive flavor. Some Osswald picks up here and there, some she takes on consignment, and some she orders from wholesalers.

In addition to large and small antique furniture, the store carries floral items, potpourri, Blackberry Creek Soaps, jewelry and interior and exterior home accents. Osswald said she will look at consignment antique and gift items to see if they fit the theme of the store.
