Brick — When you enter the front door of the Irish Peddler, you are likely to be greeted by its affable owner, the lilting music of songstress Megan Callahan playing on a CD player, and an offer of a cup of Irish tea and biscuits.

The cottage feel of the Irish gift shop, with its whitewashed walls, antique china cabinets displaying vintage Belleek china and Waterford crystal from Ireland, and its rustic half door is a far cry from the tattoo parlor that was previously located at the site.

“When I saw the half door, I knew this was where I wanted the shop. Plus, it was located right next to the Shamrock Deli,” said Laura Lynch, 48, who owns the Route 88 store in Laurelton Circle Plaza with her husband, Michael Lynch, 49.

And although the Shamrock Deli is no longer there, Laura Lynch was able to transform the tattoo parlor’s blood-red walls with black trim into something quite homey by using lots of paint and home furnishings, such as area rugs, the china cabinets and bookshelves, to give customers the feeling that they are walking into someone’s living room.
