Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association Wins Top Honors from PRSA Philadelphia

The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) received top honors from the Philadelphia chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in the Social Media category with the launch of its Baby Safety Zone Facebook page.

The Philadelphia chapter of PRSA annually recognizes the region’s best public relations campaigns. JPMA’s Facebook campaign was the first step in the debut of a new consumer-focused brand called the Baby Safety Zone, and the association took advantage of launching during its crowning event: Baby Safety Month. JPMA successfully increased exposure for the Baby Safety Month initiative and the new Baby Safety Zone brand by more than 553 percent with a total growth from zero followers to more than 2,200 in less than thirty days.

“Social media has proven to be an amazing vehicle to distribute our messages,” said Kelly Mariotti, JD, CPA, executive director of JPMA. “Baby Safety Zone’s Facebook launch was successful due to the efforts made by the members of JPMA, participating manufacturers, the public relations staff, and of course, our Facebook followers!”

Each year, JPMA dedicates resources to promote and execute Baby Safety Month, a program founded by the association more than 20 years ago. This year’s Baby Safety Month theme was “Green is the New Pink and Blue,” which encouraged eco-friendly baby products and green living. To better reach and educate parents on baby safety, JPMA utilized social media to increase brand awareness. Every day during September, JPMA distributed tips and information on sustainable living, and featured product giveaways through Facebook. To encourage promotion and engagement, manufacturers were asked to support the giveaway on the designated day and winners were asked to post pictures of their products.

Judges received hundreds of entries in 31 categories and evaluated entries based on program objectives, execution/tactics and evaluation/results. Each entry included a two-page summary and binder with extensive background material highlighting the creativity and innovation of the campaign.

“We are thrilled to have been recognized with this award,” continued Mariotti. “This places the spotlight on the dedication and effort of our staff.”
