Kramer’s Lawn Ornaments creates hundreds of yard decorationsBy Molly NewmanWausauDailyHerald.com

Kramer’s Lawn Ornaments and Gift Shop has been around since the 1950s in Pittsville. Back then, farmers Harry and Helen Kramer bought a few ornament molds from neighbors and sold the crafts from a shed for extra income.

Now, almost 1,000 types of concrete lawn decorations, from plain concrete angels to detailed painted Dutch couples, are molded on site, and it’s a full-time gig for their daughter-in-law Diane Kramer.

Diane’s husband, Don Kramer, bought the business from his parents in the early 1960s, licensed it and expanded its offerings. Don refurbished the barn when his father sold the cows in 1974 and moved the store to the much larger area.

Though Don died in 2001, Diane and four employees have kept the business going strong, with offerings costing between $6.95 and $400 on display in the two-story gift shop, the front lawn and a large warehouse. It is open from April 1 through Dec. 24.
