Local treats make national debutBy Stacey JudiceDailyWorld.com

Anyone who watches the television talk show The Rachael Ray Show looks forward to seeing what the host will hand out to her audience as the snack of the day. On July 2, one local business in Carencro will have one of their most popular products featured on the show as the snack of the day.

Nanny’s Candy Company in Carencro is home to many sweet treats. Their candy known as the Original Pecan Praline was requested to be handed out to the audience at the New York studio.

Owners Eddie and Renee Gary were contacted in February after their product was sampled by the production staff of the TV talk show.

“Originally we sent five of our best sellers to the show for review. When we heard back from the staff, they loved all of our treats but requested just the pecan praline for the show to be aired on July 2,” Eddie Gary said.

Gary’s wife, Renee, started making the candy from a family recipe. After realizing how many request were coming in for the praline, the couple decided to start selling the item in their Henderson convenience store in 1988.

“Soon, many of the other surrounding stores were asking to sell our praline product in their establishments. It was then that we decided that we could make a full-time business just by making candy,” he said.

Nanny’s Candy Company opened in Carencro in 1989. Over the years, the company expanded their merchandise line to market and sale over fifteen different kinds of sweet original treats.
