Cirque du Soleil, Backstreet Boys on tap for Macy’s Glamorama ,Los Angeles

Macy’s Passport Presents Glamorama marks its 31st anniversary this year, returning to Los Angeles on Sept. 12 with a show featuring fashion, the Backstreet Boys and a troupe from Cirque du Soleil.

Macy’s puts on the Glamorama show annually in Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco, with funds earmarked for local charities. In L.A. and San Francisco, the money has gone to support HIV/AIDS research and charities such as Aids Project Los Angeles, to the tune of a combined $31 million.

The late Elizabeth Taylor was founding chair of the event, helping to raise awareness along with money. Taylor died in 2011, but the show has gone on, and this year it will explore “Fashion in a New Light.” Essentially, a spokesman says, that means producers are using new technology, sophisticated illumination techniques and visual effects to enhance the fashion show, which will feature fall styles shown at various fashion weeks throughout the world by labels including Calvin Klein, Diesel, Rachel Rachel Roy, Tommy Hilfiger, Tallia Orange, Weekend Max Azria and Macy’s newest Impulse collection Maison Jules.

Besides performances by the Backstreet Boys and Cirque, the event will introduce the Summer Set, a five-member punk rock group that won Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star contest.

Glamorama is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Orpheum Theatre, 842 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, with an after-party at the California Market Center, 110 East 9th St. Tickets start at $75 (for the performance only, $250 including the after-party) and can be purchased on the website.
