Meet Your Makers: Nathan & Co Hosts Receptions for Local Artisans
Oakland, CA – Nathan & Co doesn’t take itself too seriously. The Oakland gift shop, with locations on Piedmont Avenue and College Avenue, reflects owner Nathan Waldon’s quirky sense of humor and lifelong love for “design that makes you smile.” Both storefronts are chock-full of playful goods for the kitchen, bar, bath, man, woman and child. With a focus on small batch and local items — many of which are hand-delivered to the stores by the makers themselves — Nathan & Co will launch a local maker series this month, connecting customers directly to the brands they love.
Q: How would you describe the store ambience?
A: It’s a feast for the senses. It’s intended to be that way. It’s friendly. It’s fun. It’s a happy place. It’s never going to be one of those snotty stores, one of those beautiful but sparsely merchandized stores where there’s one table for $30,000 and an apple and a book.
