Belle Glade — Sometime last year, Rilean and Amy Hooker went to a store in Ft. Myers dubbed ‘You Look Marvelous.’
What they found at the store was jewelry-inspired by Chanel, Gucci, Tiffany and Christian Dior. After leaving ‘You Look Marvelous,’ the mother-daughter team had an idea.
“When we left the store after checking it out, we felt that we needed one like this in the Glades,” said Amy.
That was just one inspiration for the Hooker family in preparation for opening up their new business.
Rilean, Amy’s mother and the business’ owner, said that the name of the business, Miss Priss Boutique and Salon, was inspired by the fact that she called her three daughters – Amy, 19, Ashley, 21 and Alexis, 16 – ‘prissy.’
With that in mind, the two were ready to open their business Friday afternoon.
Rilean said that about 50 people came out for the grand opening, with refreshments served. It was a bustling first day indeed, as Miss Priss Boutique and Salon gave away items: a gift basket, a free month of tanning, a pair of earrings and a bracelet.
Diane Walker of Pahokee won the gift basket, while Jessica Figueroa of South Bay won a pair of earrings and a bracelet. Roberta Walker of Belle Glade won a set of Chanel-inspired jewelry and Sandy Doney Worth of Belle Glade won a free month of tanning, courtesy of Miss Priss Boutique and Salon.
