Interactive Daily Demos to Highlight National Stationery Show Lineup

White Plains, NY – In line with its commitment to eco-friendly initiatives, the California Gift Show has joined the Sustainable Furniture Council (SFC). The Sustainable Furniture Council is a non-profit coalition of some 160 industry players, created to promote sustainable practices among manufacturers, retailers and consumers. In addition, the California Gift Show and the Sustainable Furniture Council are planning a pavilion within the At Home division of the Show to present exhibiting members of the Council. The next edition of the California Gift Show will take place July 18-21, 2008, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

“The Sustainable Furniture Council is delighted with the way the California Gift Show promotes sustainability, particularly through its marketing outreach and education programs,” said Susan Inglis, executive director, Sustainable Furniture Council. “The Show is beautifully positioned to draw attention to companies that are making a real difference in a state that is a leader in sustainability, and in a region where buyers are eager to align themselves with authentically sustainable practices.”

As a member of the SFC, the California Gift Show will benefit through inclusion in SFC promotions, participation in workshops and events, member networking and sourcing assistance, and access to information and resources. Requirements for Council membership include concrete demonstration of a commitment to sustainability.

“As the industry becomes attuned to the new culture of sustainability, more and more companies want to become a part of the solution by producing eco-friendly product and following green business practices,” said Angelia Singleton, show manager. “Concern for the health of the planet has become an all-important trend at retail as consumers embrace renewable resources. We are pleased to take this step in the right direction – for the California Gift Show and for the planet.”

The Sustainable Furniture Council is an independent coalition of furniture industry leaders and visionaries whose mission is to promote sustainable practices within the home furnishings industry and raise awareness among manufacturers, retailers, designers and consumers. Recognizing the overwhelming scientific consensus that our world is experiencing dangerous global climate change, SFC members work to minimize carbon emissions and waste stream pollutants, and eliminate un-recyclable content and unsustainable materials. SFC members support the triple bottom line of PEOPLE-PLANET-PROFITS and lead the industry in developing awareness of best practices.
