Berlin, MD — What started as a woman’s childhood hobby has become the latest in local art available in downtown Berlin.

Longtime Berliner Heather Layton, the creator of A Mermaids Purse jewelry, is now featuring her jewelry as well as other locally made gifts in the new shop, Bungalow Love.

“I’ve always wanted to open a store,” said Layton, who has been making jewelry since high school.

She opened Bungalow Love in the former location of the frame shop on William Street, just blocks from her own home, this winter. While she has never had a shop before, Layton previously sold her jewelry online. With the acquisition of store space, she is now offering her jewelry creations as well as jewelry and gifts created by other area artists.

“It’s all local or fair trade,” she said.
