Karen McCafferty knows that when the going gets tough, the tough eat chocolate.

The Millville teacher recently opened Karby’s Sweets, a shop that offers a little bit of Lancaster’s Amish country right on High Street.

Expect to see hand-dipped chocolates, chocolate baskets, country rusticstyle home décor, crafts, cards, ornaments, coffee, candles,Kitchen Kettle jams and sauces from Lancaster, Pa., jewelry and gifts.

While the nation’s economic mood is dour, McCafferty sees only good times and old-time goods ahead.

“I am so excited! I have always wanted to go into business, said McCafferty. “I like making candy, I like primitives and I love Lancaster.”

Her family — husband Bob, son Bobby, 11, and daughter Karleigh, 8, — take camping trips to Pennsylvania six to eight times a year. They enjoy that area and might consider moving some day, but their jobs — hers at Wood School and his in road construction — make that impossible for now.
