New London Specialty Store Pinc! Exploits A Fast-Growing NicheBy Patricia DaddonaTheDay.com

The tiny, one-room store is stuffed with handmade and vintage treats: throw pillows that feature New London and Mystic landmarks, homemade soaps, colored ribbon scarves, a French side table.

You’ll pay $50 for that pillow, $6 for the soap, $12 for a scarf, and $315 for the table.

But what you probably won’t do is walk out without something. Pinc! A Unique Boutique in downtown New London will be a year old on Wednesday, yet it is already the kind of go-to boutique that draws in customers from across New London County seeking that special gift or a handmade item to decorate the home.

Owner Kim Pettey opened the shop on June 1, 2010, with the recession still holding back the economy, as word of mouth about her custom diaper bags and other fabric creations spread. Today, she features 39 different vendors.
