Ashland – Helen Borchardt will welcome customers to her new business during a grand opening celebration in June. The Greenwood resident opened Helen’s Gift Shop and Gallery in downtown Ashland on May 1. With four weeks to get everything just right, she will hold a grand opening celebration that will include with demonstrations, refreshments and door prizes.

The timing was right for Borchardt to turn a lifelong dream into a reality this spring.

“Thirty years ago, my husband and I talked about opening a shop where we seek out things for someone else to find,” she said.

It took three decades and a path through several other business ventures, including a Lincoln day spa and pedicure business in her Greenwood home. But eventually, Borchardt found a place for her dream to come true.

She set up shop in the former Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center at 1432 Silver Street. She found the new location inviting, with crisp white walls and antique touches including a tin ceiling and a doctor’s office reception window bearing the name of a former tenant, Dr. Kirkpatrick.
