NYC Mayor Proclaims “Home Textiles Market Weeks” For 2008

White Plains, NY – New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has issued an official Mayoral Proclamation, declaring the two 2008 weeks – January 31-February 7, and August 14-21, – as “Home Textiles Market Week,” in New York City. This pronouncement recognizes these markets’ importance to the home textiles industry as well as their economic benefit to New York City.

“With nearly 500 mid-to-high end home textiles vendors, Home Textiles Market Week in New York is the largest concentration of better home textiles resources in the United States,” said Penny Sikalis, GLM vice president and home textiles industry veteran. “We’re delighted to have City Hall’s acknowledgment of its positive impact to the industry, and to New York City.”

Bloomberg cited the following factors in bestowing the Home Textiles Market Week proclamation:

With a combined total of nearly 500 home textiles vendors, this week-long event offers the most comprehensive selection of home textiles products found at any U.S. market and an unparalleled breadth and depth of home bed, bath, linen and home accessories.

New York Home Textiles Market Week recognizes the evolution of the home textiles industry’s business-to-business distribution channels and makes New York City an essential destination for more than 43,000 retailers and 2,700 vendors seeking business-to-business opportunities.

George Little Management, LLC (GLM), 230 Fifth Avenue and 7 W New York have jointly developed a “New York Market: Built for Business” tagline and logo to collectively promote Home Textiles Market Week activities, which along with a combined market directory and free inter-venue shuttle service, enhance the promotional partnerships and efficiencies that best serve market needs. With a comprehensive slate of educational programming and after-hours events designed to maximize the market experience for all participants, this event promises to be a great boon to the industry, and to the economic vitality of the city.

New York Home Textiles Market Week is produced and promoted cooperatively at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94, 230 Fifth Avenue and 7 West 34th Street. Products represented include bed and bath fashions, table linens, kitchen textiles, towels, decorative accessories, area rugs, window treatments and decorative fabrics.

The winter 2008 dates for Home Textiles Market Week are Thursday, January 31, through Thursday, February 7, opening at 7 W New York on Thursday, January 31; at the New York International Gift Fair on Friday, February 1; at 230 Fifth Avenue on Saturday, February 2.
