NSS Nominates MAIZURU for Best New Product Display

MAIZURU, a new brand of locally made “eco-luxury” social stationery will debut at the “esteemed” New Product Display of the annual National Stationery Show (NSS) scheduled for May 18 – 21 at New York’s Jacob Javits Convention Center.

The Japanese-inspired line features perfect color combinations, defined motifs, and timeless designs. The signature motif of MAIZURU — the Tsuru also known as the crane—is the work of couture designer Kazu Huggler and it permeates the entire collection. MAIZURU’s Tsuru’s elongated neck is a stylized letter “I” in the MAIZURU logo and sport its “eco” green color.

Long regarded as the “queen of the birds” in Japan, the tsuru symbolizes good fortune, longevity and fidelity. An especially beautiful and elegant bird, the tsuru has been loved for centuries and thousands of variations of tsuru motifs have been recorded throughout Japanese history. Tsuru’s are known for their singing and dancing and when two tsurus dance, it is known as “maizuru” or “dancing cranes” – mai means dance and zuru stands for crane.

A brand totally committed to visually potent and environmentally friendly products delivers more than social stationery to the marketplace. MAIZURU represents art and art with a minimalist flair—clean lines and faultless composition—leaving the original textile patterns unaltered. For the “Best New Product Display,” MAIZURU presents its Red-head Tsuru from the Maizuru Collection—a pluralistic expression; not just a note card, but art, design and luxury. The distinctly regal bird depicts flawless symmetry in the placement of its graceful wings; tasteful projection of its long neck which exudes confidence; and, for perfect contrast, a red “dot” for its delicate red head. Printed on premium FSC recycled 100 percent Post Consumer (PC) Acid Free linen stock, the chic note cards will also be exhibited in Booth 1654.

From the onset, MAIZURU stepped out of the gate totally “green” and knew that the brand would go the extra mile to support its green-philosophy. The brand prides itself on its eco-friendly bandwidth and does so by partnering with local companies, e.g., Rolling Press, an environmentally friendly printing company based in Brooklyn, NY that uses vegetable inks with low no-Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), wind power and Post Consumer 100 percent recycled stock.

MAIZURU reduces its carbon footprint by eliminating huge shipping and postage costs and ensures that its packaging adapts the same eco-principles; greeting card boxes are supplied locally and are made from 100 percent Post Consumer recycled chipboard wrapped with 100 percent PC recycled paper glued with animal resin and finally, greeting card clear bags are Certified Biodegradable made from plants.

Already committed to philanthropic activities, MAIZURU made its first charitable donation to children at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian on May 6, 2008. The donation was made jointly with Where There’s A Need Inc., a Queens-based 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that supports women and children with cancer and other hair loss needs. For 2008, MAIZURU has pledged 100 percent of (net) sales of its Chrysanthemum in Blue line to help further the work of Where There’s A Need, Inc.
