NYIGF Introduces Hundreds of New Resources at Winter Market

White Plains, NY – Building on the momentum generated by a successful summer market, the winter 2010 edition of the New York International Gift Fair® (NYIGF®) will introduce some 600 new and returning companies to its ranks – including major brands as well as industry newcomers – and will strategically position international companies throughout the Fair’s eight divisions. Overall, NYIGF will feature a depth and breadth of style-focused resources from 2,800 exhibitors, presenting 100,000 lines in some 400 product categories. NYIGF runs Saturday, January 30 through Thursday, February 4, 2010, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 94.

To reinforce NYIGF’s unique positioning as the style and design standard-setter among gift and home industry events, a new marketing campaign has been launched for the winter 2010 market. Aptly named “New Rules,” the campaign is fresh and contemporary and features both a re-designed NYIGF logo and examples of cutting-edge products on display at the Fair. The new look will flow from all print and online marketing materials through to onsite signage.

“What sets NYIGF apart is its dynamic atmosphere, its emphasis on evolving trends and the access it affords to unique and new resources,” said Dorothy Belshaw, NYIGF director and GLM senior vice president. “This event sets the bar for style and sophistication among U.S. gift and home markets.”

This winter, many of NYIGF’s eight divisions will welcome companies brand new to the show, as well as others returning after an absence from the market. In addition, NYIGF will continue to present the industry’s largest collection of international resources, with more than 300 companies from nearly 40 countries worldwide. Complete details about international participants and newcomers to the Fair will be announced in coming weeks.

A new initiative launching at the winter market is The Licensing Gallery @ NYIGF an exhibit area featuring some 30 companies offering art and design for sale or license. Through the gallery, home and gift manufacturers will gain exclusive access to artwork available for ready application to gift and home products.

Strategic groupings of product categories in two NYIGF divisions will facilitate the sourcing process for buyers during the winter market: Within Handmade®, artisans with products Handmade in the USA® will expand and consolidate in the Javits Center’s “1D” hall and ethnic craft, sourced globally, will be grouped together in the “1E” hall of the Javits Center; and handmade personal care products will be consolidated on the EX·TRACTS® exhibit floor.

Beyond exhibits, NYIGF participants can enjoy several industry functions taking place during market week, including: the Gift For Life Stakes Are High Casino, a fundraiser on Sunday, January 31, benefitting DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS;A Night on Broadway, featuring HAIR on Tuesday, February 2, and the 2010 Housewares Design Awards Gala & Ceremony on Wednesday, February 3. Market participants also can enjoy market-week admission to the New Museum of Contemporary Art, compliments of NYIGF and its partner showrooms located at 230 Fifth Avenue, 7 West 34th Street and 41 Madison Avenue.

Additionally, Gift Fair attendees will have access to an extensive educational seminar program addressing color and design trends, social media, sustainability and retail strategies. There also will be exhibitor-focused sessions addressing post-show follow-up, global sourcing and licensing. NYIGF’s SustainAbility: design for a better world® initiative will return and expand in 2010, with more stringent criteria for acceptance into the display of “green” gift and home products. Exhibitors whose products or production processes are eco-friendly, and whose business practices are socially responsible, will be considered for participation only if their products have “Zero Tolerance” for VOC; lead (for baby, children and food-related products); PVC, without recommendation for use and disposal, and unless repurposed; and aniline dyes, formaldehyde, chlorine (for textiles). NYIGF also will feature two educational sessions addressing green issues and opportunities during the winter 2010 market.

NYIGF, the nation’s premier gift, home and lifestyle marketplace, runs Saturday, January 30, through Thursday, February 4, 2010. Handmade at the Javits Center and At Home at Pier 94 will run Saturday through Wednesday. All other divisions (Accent on Design, At Home featuring Home Textiles, EX·TRACTS, General Gift, Personal Accessories, Studio and Tabletop & Housewares) will run Sunday through Thursday at the Javits Center.

NYIGF’s 2,800 exhibiting companies feature an extraordinary breadth and depth of design-driven home fashion products and complementary giftware, and some 31,000 attendees from all 50 states and more than 80 countries around the world are expected.
